To add another perspective to your excellent writing here, Marley:

Do you remember the Cheerios ad awhile back? There was a White Dad, a Black Mom who was pregnant, and a little girl. The Dad is using Cheerios to explain that the family is going to get bigger, so he pushes one into the middle of the table for Mom, one for his daughter, and one for himself. Then he pushes another out and says, "And a little brother." Then his daughter pushes out a Cheerio, looks him straight in the eye, and says "And a puppy." It was a charming and funny ad. The outrage from White people was so extreme General Mills had to take it off the air. I can't even find it on YouTube anymore.

I think I might watch more TV than you. I also see a lot of gay couples, including lesbians. Yes! Women! Some of those couples are also mixed and some of them are not. In addition to your real concerns, it might also be just demographics, like covering your bases. If you have a couple doing couple things, having Black, Asian, and Hispanic couples with White partners expands your demographics without having to make multiple ads.

Husband and I had dinner with White friends a few weeks ago, and they were astonished at the number of ads with Black people. In that context, the White folks were invisible to them. We just said, eh, marketing.

You know, the demographics of the population are changing, and White people will become the minority in the not-too-distant future. Since White people think anyone who is even partly non-White is not White, White folks are not going to get your point. They'll be so busy worrying about all the Black folks and all the gay folks and all the Bi folks and all the Trans folks and all the Asian folks and all the Hispanic folks, they won't know what to do except to move to the middle of Iowa and hide. All 10 of them, because that's all that will be left. At least there's room!

The rest of us will be watching the Geico ad. Sprinkles!

Love to you.
